Hyundai Motor Group announces its new $7.59B investment in developing the plant known as Metaplant in the U.S. will produce its first vehicle in 2025, this will be the Hyundai IONIQ 5. This factory is expected to create up to 8,500 direct jobs in the Georgian state.

The IONIQ 5 is a Hyundai all-electric SUV that will begin production in 2024 Q4 as the company is currently training and preparing to produce vehicles at the most efficient rate. There are also greater plans for the Metaplant to produce not only Hyundai vehicles but also Genesis and Kia models.

The Metaplant will produce all trims and will be the main facility to build IONIQ 5 models for the U.S. market.

“This is a very exciting time for HMGMA,” said Oscar Kwon, president and CEO of HMGMA. “We are in the final phase of construction and are getting ready for the 2025 Hyundai IONIQ 5 to roll off the line. It’s the ideal vehicle for us to start production with.”

The IONIQ 5 has received many awards and top reviews, including being named (Best Electric SUV, Best EV for Money, and one of the Best Cars for Families by U.S News & World Report.)

The IONIQ 5 has proven to be very popular worldwide, it became Hyundai's highest-volume EV, with sales rising to 43% in 2024 and increasing by 82% in May.
